Events So Far

Since the initial build I have competed with the vehicle in the following events... I've not listed club events here, just what I would consider "major" competitions.

Muddy Truckers Trophy March 2004
This event marked the deadline for the completion of the primary build and was a real baptism of fire for the newly completed vehicle. With a total of just 50 road miles since the build, competing in an event that involved driving to Scotland and back was a bit worrying.
The two day event went well all things considered but after losing most of the day on Saturday replacing a front half shaft on Matthew's 110 we were never going to have a chance at finishing well. My 100 inch behaved well for the whole weekend and, other than snapping both rear shock absorbers, it was a good event as I learnt how to play with my new toys - the rear winch and the ARB lockers. A write up from the event is available here...

Argyl Forest Challenge August 2004
After a few months tinkering time, including the addition of some side bars, this challenge once again put the vehicle through it's paces. We were never on the pace really with, comparatively, small tyres and with Matthew's 110 having no rear winch and no lockers. Once again though the motor performed well and I began to get a bit more adventurous with the lockers. I could really do with a set of Simex Centipedes though :-)

Belgium National September 2004
A long weekend abroad gave me the chance to try the motor in some more high speed laning in and around the border between Belgium and France. More on road and off road mileage once again proved the reliability of the vehicle.

Bulldog Challenge September 2004
This was a welcome return of, in my view, one of the best challenge events the UK has to offer. Having competed in this event twice before we knew what to expect and the new land they found for this event was ideal. As events go this had to be the hilight of our year, winning the standard class and coming well up the overall results. Running standard did mean I had to disable the rear winch and the ARB lockers and I did miss them at times.

Three Peaks Challenge October 2004
The sheer scale of the land available for this event is amazing and, once again, Munster 4x4 put on a great bash. I struggled with a lot of the tracks with a lack of ground clearance (did I mention I NEED some Simex Centipedes ?). Having the smallest tyres in our team of four vehicles at "only" 235/85x16 meant I spent a lot of time winching my vehicle on it's belly with the tyres barely touching the bottom of the ruts. I get the impression that everyone in Ireland uses Simex Centipedes, even the marshals vehicles had them fitted. Those without them are at a serious disadvantage as a result. (Did I mention I NEED some Simex Centipedes ?)
